Short Film - Dilemma 05/03/2013
The short film "Dilemma" was produced in the course of my apprenticeship as audio-visual media designer. We were meant to make a three to four minutes long film in groups of five people. The whole process of filmmaking including brainstorming, writing exposé, screenplay and storyboard as well as planning and realizing the shooting and postproduction was all up to us.
I was mainly responsible for creating and forming the specific look of the film. Therefore I was in charge of the pictorial design and camera work during the two days of shooting last week and for colour grading and creating the visual effects during the two-day long postproduction.
I filmed with the canon EOS 5D Mk. II and used a slider for many of the takes to bring in more dynamics. All the night shots were made in the daytime and transformed into night scenes in the postproduction.
The short film tells the story of a single father of middle age - Andy. He loves his seventeen year old daughter more than anything and does everything for her good. To make an enjoyable life without financial problems possible for his daughter, Andy starts to produce drugs again even though he had disassociated himself from the drug scene after a time in prison. One morning while tidying up the room of his daughter, Andy discovers a pen which reminds him of the previous night.
